Meditation

Nowadays there is a hunger stirring for greater spiritual depths. Meditation is one of the most popular and actually the most effective tool to satisfy this hunger, if one learns how to do it right.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever thingsare just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Paul says if we meditate on the Word (which is true, noble, just...) and then apply  the truth we received through meditation, the presence of God will follow us wherever we go brining peace to us even in stressful situations.

In Joshua 1:8-9 God tells the same to Joshua: Joshua, meditate on my Word and you will experience Me whatever you do!
Again in Psalm 1 the Lord says: Remain in my Word in a meditative way and you will prosper in due time!

Here is a very simple way to meditate that launches us into even greater spiritual depths and prayer:

1. Take a couple verses from the Scriptures, it doesn't have to be a lot. It's not the amount we read that matters, but the quaility how we read it. Take verses that apply to your current life situation. If you are struggling financially, take verses that talk about financials. Don't strive do do a lot at once. Madame Guyon, who was a Catholic saint with incredibly deep relationship with Christ says don't be like a bee who flies from one flower to another, jumping everywhere, be patient. Ask God to help you to slow down.

2. Read the verses and ask God to reveal the truth about those verses that apply to your life right now.

3. Remain quiet and let God speak to you. Whatever comes to your mind, ask God further questions about it. God might bring scriptures from other places, memories from your past or things from other people's life into your mind. Trust that He will speak to you.

4. Take time to journal during your prayer time. If you feel like you received some important nuggets during meditation, jot it down and apply it into your life.

5. Make sure that things you received are Biblical and are not in opposition with God's Word. Obviously if during meditation on some verses on finances you get thoughts on stealing from the grocery store on the corner, it's not of God. Be discerning! If not sure, check with others who know the Word of God. Your discernment will increase as your knowledge of the Word increases.

6. Don't give up! As everthing, meditation on the Word takes practice, but if we endure, it becomes one of the most simple and delightful ways to get to know God and His Word more and to gain incredible wisdom to overcome obstacles in your life.
